The gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle and Touriseum

Awarded “Italy’s most beautiful garden” in 2005! A unique world of adventure between nature, culture and art across 12 hectares. Insights into exotic Mediterranean landscapes, views of the surrounding mountains and sun-spoilt Merano. Trauttmansdorff Castle, once the residence of the Austrian Empress Elisabeth, now houses the South Tyrol Museum of Tourism. This interactive museum explains the history of 200 years of tourism.

Castel Scena

Castel Scena is furnished in the classic style of the 19th century. The halls and stately rooms house a picture and portrait gallery, a weapons collection and numerous objects of Tyrolean history. The castle owns memorabilia of Archduke John of Austria – the largest privately owned Andreas Hofer collection. His descendants still live in Castel Scena.

MMM – Messner Mountain Museum

MMM Firmian, MMM Juval, MMM Dolomites, MMM Ortles, MMM Mountain peoples and MMM Corones - these are the names of the six museums set up and owned by extreme mountaineer Reinhold Messner. MMM Firmian in Bolzano engages with the encounter of people and mountains, MMM Juval near Naturno looks at the religious dimensions of the mountains.

Ötzi – the ice mummy

At the South Tyrolean archaeology museum in Bolzano it’s all about Ötzi the ice mummy. At the museum in Bolzano you discover everything about his clothing and equipment, the circumstances of his death and the mummy itself.

Castel Tirolo

The castle of the dynasty of the Counts of Tyrol gave the country its name. The furnishings of the castle date back to the late 11th century. Castel Tirolo showcases the history of the country from its beginnings to today.
